What is FTP
The old loading dock. Still open. Rarely the right door.

FTP is File Transfer Protocol, from an internet that assumed the network was friendly. You connect to a server, you put a file, you get a file. Passwords can travel in the clear. So can the file.
The distinction that matters
You will still find it behind old printers, old agencies, and old habits. If someone asks you for FTP in 2026, ask whether they will take a link. Then ask whether they will at least take SFTP.
